CVFC was dispatched to assit/ relieve CFD with traffic control and closing down I-86 due to an accident in Catt. Cty. We were mainly called in because CFD was hosting the annual firemans convention. CL-1, 4, and 501 responded and took position at the westbound entrance ramp and at the westbound exit ramp to suffle traffic off and down Rt. 446, around the scene. Crews knew this was going to be a big task, as they have NEVER been called to anything on the Interstate and it would take a good bit of skill to accomplish this task. As usuall they handled it like pros and cleared the scene around 20:00 hrs. All units went BIS at 20:30 hrs

6/20/09  17:06

CVFC was alerted to a tree down in the roadway with wires and on fire on Cty Rd 40 near Stewart Rd. CL-501 and 502 went responding and arrived on scene to find a large tree blocking the road tangled in wires. As 501 was assessing the situation, 3 more trees fell in the same location resulting in a complete shut down of the road and detours to be set up. Traffic was rerouted up Stewart Rd. and around Jordan Hill Rd. RG&E was notified as well as the Alleg. Cty DPW for a front end loader to help remove the mess. Once the juice was off, the combined forces went to work to clear the mess. After about 3 hours, the road was cleared and reopened. All units went BIS shortly after 20:00 hrs. A special thanks for the Cty DPW helping out, which made the job alot easier.

5/26/09

For this training night,  CVFC crews practiced pumper operations and LDH supply utalizing C-2 as water supply feeding C-1 which was supplying an 1-3/4" attack and the new TFT Blitz Fire monitor. The crews learend well  but with this "new" water supply operation, there is more to learn. We will be working with other area departments to get in sync with m/a operations using LDH in the village areas. Up next is hydrant hook-ups and laying in for supply. Photos in Gallery.

4/17/09 04:10

Once again CVFC's sleep was disrupted for a m/a tanker to the scene of yet another structure fire, this time in Richburg. C-7 and C-502 responded and arrived on scene of the fire which was now taking the house. Clarksville was also requested for an engine to stand-by @ Richburg . C-2 and C-501 responded and just after arriving at their station were upgraded to the scene for interiors and to establish a water supply. C-7 made several drops to supply the attacking teams while the crew of C-2 assisted with fire suppression operations. Once the main attack was completed all CVFC crews were released but sent back to Richburg for stand-by. C-501 requested an engine to stand-by at his station. All units were released around 09:30 and after some relaying of hose, were placed BIS at 10:00.

C-4, C-501, C-502, C-7 responded within minutes and arrived on scen to find a working structure fire. Due to the fire being in the village and with hydrants readily available, the tankers were secondary water source. But before hydrants could be wrung, the booster tank water was gone so the crew of C-7 established a portable pond to supply water. Just as the Cuba engine pulled draft, they had the hydrant in operation. With water supply established, C-7 was ordered to tear down and return to quarters. All units went returning and were placed BIS around 01:30 hrs.

Crews were pressed into servie this morning for a 1 car mva, reported on its side on Rt. 305 N near the town line. C-501 and 502 responded followed by C-1 and C-4.  With the snow coverd roads, all units were advised to use caution and slow response because there were no injuries and it would just be a traffic control call.  After the wrecker arrived, the road was shut down to remove the vehicle. I took about 30 minutes to remove the vehicle as the guid rail cables were wrapped in the springs of the vehicle. After the removal was complete, the road was reopened and once traffic cleared all units went returning.  Clarksville units went BIS at 09:30 hrs.                                                                                      Units on scene: C-1, C-4, C-50, C-501, C-502, NYSP

 3/27/09 07:56

Shortly before 8 am Clarksville VFC along with Clarksville VAS was dispatched to a one car motor vehicle on Rt. 305 near Cty 5 with injuries. Withing minutes C-1 was on the road and 911 advised the accident was on Cty 5 about 1.5 miles from Rt. 305. With the extremely foggy conditions units proceded with caution scanning the roadway for the accident. C-1 found the car about 2 mile up in the Portville fire district and had 911 noify them of the accident and for an officer from PFD to respond to the scene. C-8 arrived and treated the patiebt which had a leg injury while C-4 took up traffic control on the East end. After closer investigation it was discovered that the vehicle snapped a guide wire on a power pole and RG&E was notified. The patiebt was transported to OGH and the car was removed from the scene and all units went returning. Units went BIS at 09:08.

3/17/09 23:40

At 23:40 hrs CVFC was dispatched for a mutual aid tanker to assist Cuba Fire at the scene of a structure fire. C-501 and C-7 responded imediately followed by C-4 and C-502. With man power shortages, Cuba Command requested a second call from CVFC for a full response and manpower, but with a quick knock down C-1 was placed on stand-by in quarters. While C-7 shuttled water to the scene, C-4 set up water supply at the "S" curves on Rt. 305 and Cty. 6 to fill the tankers. After about 1.5 hrs operating, all Clarksville units were released and went enroute back to quarters, placing BIS around 01:30 hrs.

3/14/09 19:17

Allegany County 911 toned CVFC for a chief officer to land line  dispatch. C-501 and C-502 were informed of a residence on LaFever Rd that had a house full of water with the electic on and nobody home. Upon arrival they found water gushing out the doorways and parts of the walls. After locating the outside power source, they gained access to shut off the panel box and check for the leak. It was found that due to the extremely cold temperatures in the past few months, the water line between the pump and pressure tank had froze and cracked causing the water to  fill the house. The 2 chiefs advised the hom owner to contact their insurance company and land lord as they are only renting and inform them of the problem and damages. Units were BIS at 20:05

3/11/09 16:57

2/21/09 06:40

Clarksville VFC was dispatched for a tanker and manpower to assist Richburg and Bolivar at the scene of a structure fire on County Rt. 40 in Wirt. C-4, 501, 502, 503 and 7 went rsponding and arrived on scene to find crews attempting an attack on the well involved house. Clarksville joined in on the attack to help quell the blaze. With the main body of the fire knocked down, Clarksville's crews went to staging while the first due depts moved inside to finish it off. Upon their entry they discoverd that there was a single fatality from the fire. County Fire Investigators, NYSP, and the Coroner were called to the scene. Shortly after Clarkville was released and went BIS around 09:45. Also assisting were tankers from Cuba, Friendship, and Portville with Allentown on stand-by in Bolivar and Friendship in Richburg. Portville returned about 18:20 and all Clarksville units went returning and placed BIS around 16:40.

 1/26/09 20:30

Clarksville VFC was dispatched for mutual aid tanker to a rekindle at the structure fire from earlier in the day. Clarksville 4, 501, 502, 503, and 7 went responding and upon arrival, encountered heavy fire consuming the remains. Cuba 9 was set up and watered down the fire as Oakley Sortore used his excavator to tear the rubble apart to assure there would be no return. Clarksville 7 ran water shuttle and Clarksville 4 assisted with traffic control. All units went BIS at 01:15 on 1/27/09.

1/26/09 12:20pm

Clarksville VFC was dispatched full response mutual aid to Cuba for a structure fire with entrapment. Within minutes Clarksville 1 went responding followed by 4, 501, 503, and 7.  Cuba 2nd LT arrived on scene reporting condition red (working fire) and that all occupants were out of the house. When crews arrived on scene, they quickly donned SCBA and joined in on the aggressive attack underway. As crews advanced further up through the house they were ordered out because of a fully involved attic area. They no sooner exited and flames roared through the roof. All resources went to surround and drown to quell the fire. This fire proved to be a pain in the ass due to the multiple additions and modifications made to the old style balloon frame construction and newly added metal roof which held the heat and flames in. When defensive operations started, Clarksville 1 was moved up to supply Cuba 9 for their ladder pipe. But with the 75' ladder barely reaching the A side of the stucture, Houghton 9 was special called for their 100' platform, which Clarksville 1 also supplied. Just a crews rotated out, a collapse occured trapping 1 firefighter and injuring 3 more. Two of them ezcaped and were transported for evaluation while the 4th< 2nd LT Jim Kupiec, rescued his fellow firefighter. After FF Jones was removed, FF Kupiec was transported and then flown to ECMC for resitiory burns. He was on the front porch overseeing the mop up inside when the floor gave way above pushing smoke, heat, embers, and everything else in to Kupiec. When he ws checked at the hospital, it was found that his carbon dioxide level was about 90%, almost fatal. But despite this he managed to pull his brother out and assure the safety of everyone else there that day. Clarksville 7 ran the 10 mile round trip water shuttles with the 13 other tankers. It took 100 firefighters from 18 companies/departments over 6 hours to bring it under control. Crews had to battle temps in the low teens as well a fatigue while fighting the blaze because of the lack of interior firfighters. Crews went BIS at 19:30 hrs. www.cfdsmokeeaters .com for updates on FF Kupiec.

1/5/09 13:53pm

On Jan 5 a passerby flagged down a Clarksville firefighter and notified him of a structure fire about 1.5 miles south of town. Just as he arrived at the station, another firefighter arrived and stated that his in-laws house was on fire and his was about to catch. D.Sharp then contacted County 911 via the base radio and told them of the structure fire at 2420 Rt. 305 and requested his company be dispatched along with Cuba FD and Portville FD full response. Clarksville 1, 4, 7, and 8 responded immediately and upon arrival crews found a heavily working fire with heavy smoke pushing from everywhere and an exposure problem on the B side with siding starting to melt. C-1 then requested tankers out of Friendship, New Hudson, and Westons Mills to shuttle water to the fire. Under the command of FF D.Sharp initial attack was put on cooling the exposure house because of the small amount of manpower. Once additional personnel arrived more attack lines were pulled and placed on the fire. Command advised of exterior operations only because the roof was starting to buckle and within a few minutes it collapsed. With the attack under way C-50 assumed command and requested the utility companies be notified as well as the Red Cross. With the majority of the fire out, crew cautiously worked their way inside to extinguish the remaining fire and begin overhaul. The exposure house suffered only moderate siding damage and was checked thoroughly for any extension as the family would be staying there. All mutual aid was released and Clarksville stayed on scene to assist Fire Investigators. The cause of the fire is believed to be from the water heater because that is the area of fire origin. Crews were on scene for approximately 4 hours and placed BIS around 18:00 hours.

 12/23/08 20:30pm

The crews of CVFC went on a special assignmet tonite to welcome home the injured firefighters from Cuba, Aaron Appleby, Bryant Hughes, and Nick Sweet. C-4, C-501, C-503, C-7 with full crews went over to welcome and greet their friends. CFD had their PPE laid out in front of their gear lockers for everyone to see. And from a personal point of view it was very scary seeing the damage to their helmets, air packs and other gear. But thankfully the PPE did its job and protected them, their helmets and air packs seem to have taken the brunt of the impact. But even so they still have a lenghty recovery ahead of them and knowing the fighters the guys are and the tremendous amount of support they have, they will return and join us once again.

Crews secured the vehicles and awaited a hook to come pick up the wrecks. The apperent cause is the green Olds was headed south when the driver attempted to turn up Cty Rd 5 and ran into the white Vibe ripping its rear tire off and sending it carenning into the field. Even though the Vibe was traveling above the speed limit, the Olds failed to yeild the righ of way resulting in the collision. This was the driver of the Olds fourth accident is a year. With the fire was rapidly progressing through the opened arched style roof, He then requested an additional arial and also tankers from 12 additional departments. With the tanker crews from Clarksville, Cuba, and Portville ringing 3 different hydrants to establish fill sites for the army of tankers, a steady water supply was established and the defensive attack with Cuba 9 and Houghton 9 was started to control the blaze.
